This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Nathan Hale Jean Christie Root Books Reviews
A surprisingly straightforward biography of Nathan Hale. No hyperbole or pandering to the youth this book is aimed at. While written for middle school students, this book has enough substance to be enjoyable for adults. The numerous letters by Hale, his family, and contemporaries bring this biography to life.
I read my first biography of Nathan Hale in 5th grade, in the 70's, and fell in love with his story. To this day he is still my favorite historical figure. In the interviening years, I have read both good and horrd biographies of NH's life. Most of the biographies are just too fictionalized. This book sticks to facts without being dry. I learned a couple of facts I did not know.
Written just over a hundred years ago, this book could be published today with only one modification. That being changing the number of years since he died (140 years in the edition that was digitized ).
The mini biographies of family and friends was a nice bonus. Including the story of Major John Andrê made this story complete. (I learned a couple of facts about him I did not know also.) How they were treated is striking in the differences. The commentary on these differences is simple but powerful.
A must read for anyone who appreciates Nathan Hale's sacrifice .
This biography of Nathan Hale, written in 1912, is designed for what modern readers would call Juvunile Non-fiction. Any middle school reader would derive useful information from this book. I would not recommend the book to adult readers of history.
This book was well written, even poetic at times in the wording. Sources are not quoted often, but it was a quick overview of the life of Hale.
Horrible writing, poor sentence structure, and incorrect grammar usage. Chapter 1, page 8 "Nathan Hale, as a boy, had one more asset that must have helped to insure his future success, and that did, as we believe, to help him die nobly." The use of "insure" in this statement is incorrect. The meaning of insure is financial protection. The correct word which should have been used is "ENSURE" which is to make certain. With no publishing company information for this book how can one be certain that the written material was in fact researched and is factual. Sending book back.
great insight into Hales life and character.
quick reading and enjoyed the book
He was a true hero and American
ENJOYED READING ABOUT THIS GREAT AMERICAN FIGURE AND HIS STERLING CHARACTER AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. A YOUNG MAN WITH WISDOM FAR BEYOND HIS YEARS. ENJOYED HIS FA MILY HISTORY AS WELL AS HIS PROFOUND IMPACT ON FRIENDS AND EVEN HIS CAPTORS TO THE END!
